The National Youth Council of Nigeria (National Youth Council of Nigeria), Ebonyi State Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Most Rev. Peter Nworie Chukwu, describing his passing as a significant loss not only to the Catholic Church but to Nigeria as a whole.
The Bishop, who served as the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, reportedly died on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the age of 60.
In a condolence message signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, the youth council extended its sympathies to the Catholic faithful, the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, the wider Christian community, and the immediate family of the late cleric.
The statement described Bishop Chukwu as a devoted servant of God whose life and ministry were marked by humility, moral integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the Gospel. It further noted that his pastoral work contributed significantly to peace, unity, and moral development in society, particularly among young people in Ebonyi State.
According to the council, the death of the cleric is a profound blow to the spiritual and moral fabric of the state, given his influence and leadership role within the Christian community.
While mourning his passing, the Ebonyi NYCN said it takes solace in his legacy of faithful service and prayed for the repose of his soul, asking God to grant him eternal rest and comfort all those he left behind.
