The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza-South Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, Rt. Hon. (Comrade) Chinedu Ogah, OON, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu.
Bishop Chukwu, the third canonically installed shepherd of the Diocese, passed away on April 10, 2026, a development that has thrown the Catholic community in Ebonyi State and beyond into mourning.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, Ogah described the news of the Bishop’s death as shocking and painful, noting that the late cleric was a devoted servant of God whose episcopal ministry was marked by humility, pastoral dedication, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.
He said the passing of Bishop Chukwu represents not only the loss of a spiritual leader but also that of a moral compass and a father figure to the faithful across the Diocese and the wider Christian community.
Ogah extended his condolences to the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, the bereaved family, the clergy, the laity, and the entire Ezza Ezekuna nation, urging them to find strength in faith during the period of mourning.
According to him, the late Bishop’s legacy of spiritual leadership, moral guidance, and community development would continue to inspire future generations, adding that his life was a testament to selfless service and sacrificial leadership in the vineyard of God.
Drawing comfort from the Holy Scriptures, the lawmaker referenced John 11:25–26, which speaks of Christ as “the resurrection and the life,” noting that the promise offers hope of eternal rest for the faithful departed.
He prayed that God grants the soul of the late Bishop eternal repose and consoles all who mourn his passing.
“May the soul of Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement concluded.
