The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, on Tuesday inaugurated a solar-powered rural water supply scheme in communities within Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The project, consisting of solar-powered motorized boreholes, was commissioned at Ndiagu Azu Oha-Nkwu in Ndufu Alike community, with a view to improving access to clean and potable water for rural residents.
Speaking at the event, Ogah said the intervention was part of efforts to address water scarcity and enhance living standards in underserved communities. He noted that access to potable water is essential for public health and socio-economic development.
The lawmaker added that the adoption of solar-powered technology would ensure sustainability and reduce operational challenges associated with conventional water systems.
He said the project aligns with the development priorities of the Ebonyi State Government under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, particularly in expanding basic infrastructure in rural areas.
Ogah urged residents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance to guarantee their longevity.
The project was facilitated in collaboration with local authorities, who commended the initiative and described it as a timely intervention that would ease the burden of water access in the area.
Stakeholders, including community leaders and residents, were present at the commissioning ceremony.
