A frontline media practitioner and Publisher of Golden Truth Newspaper, Hon. James Nwogha Nwite, has emerged as the senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ebonyi North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwite secured the party's ticket unopposed during the NDC senatorial primary election held at Amike Aba, Abakaliki, polling a total of 816 votes cast by delegates across four local government areas including Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu which make up the Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Declaring the result, Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Chief Obiya Nwofoke, announced that Nwite scored 816 votes to emerge as the sole senatorial candidate of the party for the 2027 election.
In his acceptance speech, Nwite described his emergence as a significant milestone in the quest to provide purposeful leadership and effective representation for the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Addressing party faithful and supporters shortly after his victory, the NDC candidate said he joined the race out of a desire to offer quality representation and address the developmental challenges confronting the zone.
According to him, his aspiration is anchored on a commitment to reposition Ebonyi North through effective representation and robust legislation that will tackle poverty, improve healthcare services, unlock the area's agricultural potential, empower youths and attract critical infrastructure development.
"Today marks another milestone as we set out to elect those who will represent us in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 general elections.
"I joined the race under the platform of our great party, the NDC, driven by my resolve to provide the long-needed purposeful leadership and effective representation that has eluded our people for years.
"I am offering myself for service to reposition Ebonyi North through effective representation and robust legislation that will end the years of widespread poverty, poor healthcare services, neglect of our agricultural potential, youth unemployment and poor road infrastructure," he stated.
Nwite noted that the forthcoming election presents an opportunity for the people of the district to redefine their legislative future and elect leaders committed to advancing the collective interests of the zone.
He called on residents of Ebonyi North to support his vision, assuring that his legislative agenda would focus on human capital development, economic empowerment, infrastructure expansion and improved social welfare.
"History beckons as another opportunity stares us in the face at this defining moment to change the course of our legislative narrative and chart a new course for a better Ebonyi North.
"I therefore call on the hardworking people of Ebonyi North to key into this vision for a life-transforming legislative agenda that will make Ebonyi North great again," he added.
Beyond his media and political engagements, Nwite has held several leadership positions at the community level. He served as the Town Union President of Ndiegu Ishieke Autonomous Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where he was credited with attracting critical social amenities and development projects to the area.
During his tenure, the community witnessed the provision and expansion of electricity infrastructure, construction of boreholes to improve access to potable water, empowerment programmes targeted at youths and women, as well as other social intervention projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Political observers say the development-oriented leadership style he demonstrated at the grassroots level contributed significantly to his growing popularity across Ebonyi North Senatorial District and strengthened confidence in his capacity to deliver effective representation if elected into the Senate.
Prior to the primary election, Nwite had formally declared his intention to contest the senatorial seat after obtaining the NDC Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms in Abuja and subsequently passing the party's screening process.
The former member of the Federal Board of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority had stated that his legislative priorities would include youth employment, educational advancement, quality healthcare delivery, agricultural transformation, infrastructure development and women empowerment.
An indigene of Ekirigwe Ishieke in Ndiegu Ward of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Nwite is regarded by his supporters as a grassroots mobiliser with extensive political structures and networks across the senatorial district.
His emergence sets the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the Ebonyi North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
