Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general election in Ebonyi State following a consensus primary conducted across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The primary election, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was held on Tuesday and produced Odii as the party’s sole candidate.
Announcing the result at the PDP collation centre in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Lekon Rotimi, declared that Odii polled a total of 8,281 votes across the state.
Rotimi said the exercise followed due verification and collation of results from all local government areas, adding that the process was peaceful and orderly.
“I am glad to announce that from the 13 local government areas of the state, we have a total vote of 8,281 for the sole and only candidate of the PDP,” he stated.
“After careful collation and verification of all results, I hereby declare Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as the winner and return him as the PDP governorship candidate,” he added.
The Chairman of the PDP in Ebonyi State, Chukwuma Igwe, described the primary as peaceful, noting that the party had adopted a consensus approach to strengthen unity ahead of the general election.
According to him, the PDP in the state remains committed to internal cohesion and strategic positioning to reclaim power in Ebonyi.
Addressing party members and supporters after his declaration, Odii expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as a mandate for what he termed a “rescue mission” in the state.
He accused the current administration of misgovernance, alleging that the state had been run like a “personal family enterprise,” a situation he said must be corrected.
Odii said his ambition was driven by a desire to restore effective governance, improve welfare, and rebuild the state’s economy.
“Ebonyi can never be conquered. Ebonyi can never become a personal family business. We are here for the rescue of our dear state,” he said.
He pledged to prioritise development in critical sectors including education, civil service welfare, and economic growth, assuring that his administration, if elected, would focus on inclusive governance.
Odii further declared that he was not intimidated by political opposition, adding that his mission was centred on the wellbeing of Ebonyi citizens.
“I am not scared about what the future brings. What I look forward to is the happiness of Ebonyi State, and I believe that happiness is now,” he said.
Lending his voice, the Senatorial Candidate of the party for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sunday Opoke, said the PDP is prepared to sack APC in the state and at the national level.
