The Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared its readiness to participate fully in the 2027 general elections, announcing plans to field candidates for the governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly seats.
The State Chairman of the party, Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists after a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held at the party’s secretariat along the old Enugu-Abakaliki road.
Adibe-Nwafor said the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that aspirants have already begun indicating interest in various elective positions.
According to her, the ADC, like other political parties in the country, will be on the ballot and is committed to fielding candidates across all levels, particularly in Ebonyi State.
“Today, we had a State Working Committee meeting; the LGA chairmen, ward chairmen, and aspirants were all present. You can see the crowd is massive,” she said.
She explained that the meeting was convened to brief members on the state of the party and reaffirm its identity as a fully registered political platform.
“African Democratic Congress is a political party and not a support group. We are not pseudo to any political party. We are a political party that will be on the ballot paper. We are going to field candidates across board, especially in Ebonyi State,” she stated.
The chairman further disclosed that the party would present candidates for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and the governorship election.
“We are ready, and the aspirants are ready to run elections with the party,” she added.
Adibe-Nwafor also revealed that the SWC deliberated on a recent Federal High Court judgment which nullified earlier congresses conducted by the party nationwide.
She said the party has resolved to comply with the court order by conducting fresh congresses in all states, including Ebonyi.
“The SWC looked at the Federal High Court judgment delivered on April 29. All the congresses held before were quashed. State chairmen have been mandated to conduct fresh congresses, and we are complying with that directive,” she explained.
She added that the national leadership of the party has been duly informed and is taking steps to ensure uniform compliance across the country.
“Every state will be conducting congresses, and we will not be left behind. It is necessary to conduct these congresses so that our aspirants can emerge through a legitimate process,” she said.
The ADC chairman further disclosed that the party’s national convention, which was also affected by the court ruling, has been rescheduled.
“The national has issued May 27 for a special convention where Distinguished Senator David Mark and other National Working Committee members will be re-elected and ratified,” she said.
Adibe-Nwafor stressed that the party remains committed to the rule of law and due process.
“We are law-abiding citizens. We do not go against court orders; we follow due process,” she stated.
She called on party members to remain united and work together ahead of the fresh congresses, emphasizing the need for harmony within the party to achieve electoral success in 2027.
“There is a need for members to come together and work in harmony now that fresh congresses have been announced if we must win the election,” she added.
