Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has denied reports of a rift between him and his predecessor, Senator David Nweze Umahi, urging members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain united.
The governor made this known in a press statement issued and made available to journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Monday Uzor after a series of stakeholder engagement meetings held with leaders and members of the party.
He commended the stakeholders for their participation and contributions, noting that their inputs were critical in shaping decisions aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future political activities.
Nwifuru reaffirmed that the APC in Ebonyi remains “one indivisible family,” stressing that all aspirants seeking elective positions would be treated fairly in line with agreements reached during the consultations.
He dismissed speculations in some sections of the media suggesting a strained relationship between him and Umahi, who currently serves as Minister of Works, describing such claims as baseless and capable of causing unnecessary division within the party.
According to the statement, both leaders are working in harmony to advance the progress and stability of the APC in the state.
On the issue of consensus candidacy, the governor assured that any outstanding concerns would be resolved amicably through dialogue among stakeholders.
He also disclosed plans to meet with all aspirants as part of efforts to ensure inclusiveness and build consensus within the party.
Nwifuru called on party leaders, aspirants and members to close ranks and make necessary sacrifices in the overall interest of the APC.
