The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, has called on students across Ebonyi State to stay away from all forms of social vices in order to complement the educational development efforts of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Ochishi made the call during the matriculation ceremony of Sudan United Mission College of Health Technology held at Onuenyim Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The youth leader stressed the need for students to maintain discipline and embrace moral values capable of promoting academic excellence and peaceful coexistence within educational institutions.
According to him, the increasing rate of social vices among youths remains a major concern, urging students to resist involvement in cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and other forms of deviant behaviour.
He further called on parents and school authorities to collaborate effectively in curbing indiscipline among students, noting that any student found culpable of misconduct should be treated in line with the rules and regulations guiding the institution.
Ochishi also appealed to the state government to intervene in the infrastructural needs of the institution, especially through the provision of additional classrooms to pave the way for the establishment of new health departments aimed at expanding the growth of the college.
He noted that the ongoing construction of the Iziogo/Onuenyim Agbaja road would improve access to education and accelerate development in the area upon completion.
The NYCN Chairman commended the administration of Governor Nwifuru for its developmental strides across the state and urged residents to continue supporting the present administration.
Speaking during the event, the Provost of the institution, Mr. Ike Godwin, and the Chairman of the College Board, Hon. David Nwankwo, expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of Governor Nwifuru and reaffirmed the support of the institution’s staff and students for his re-election bid in 2027.
They also appealed to the governor to provide further support and subvention to enhance educational development in the institution.
The event featured cultural displays, musical performances and dancing by students and supporters who openly declared support for the re-election of Governor Nwifuru.
The ceremony ended with renewed calls for youth development and national growth through quality education and moral discipline.
