The Coordinator of the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement in Ebonyi State, Hon. James Nwite, has led members and supporters of the group into an alliance with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring their resolve to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Nwite who was among APC founder in Ebonyi disclosed this during a strategic meeting with the state leadership of the NDC in Abakaliki, where both groups agreed to work together to mobilise grassroots support for the emergence of Peter Obi as President and Rabiu Kwankwaso as Vice President.
He described the Obi–Kwankwaso movement as a coalition driven not by party interests but by a shared commitment to national rebirth, insisting that Nigeria’s current socio-economic and security challenges require urgent collective action.
According to him, “Nigeria is bleeding in virtually every sector, especially in security and the economy.
"This movement represents a consensus for the liberation of our nation, and all hands must be on deck to prevent a total collapse.”
The meeting, which brought together the leadership of the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement for a New Nigeria (Ebonyi Chapter) and executives of the NDC in the state, marked a significant step toward consolidating opposition forces ahead of the 2027 polls.
Leaders of the movement commended the NDC for its efforts in building a viable political platform and expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to accommodate new entrants and work collaboratively toward a common goal.
Speaking during the engagement, the NDC State Chairman, Prince Enyinnaya Alum appreciated the initiative taken by the Obi–Kwankwaso group to convene the unity meeting, describing it as timely and strategic.
He assured the new entrants that the NDC remains a formidable political platform capable of defeating both the APC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming elections.
He said the party is committed to providing Nigerians with credible leadership and a fresh political direction, adding that the alliance would strengthen democratic participation and expand the party’s support base across the state.
Alum also described the defection of Obi and Kwankwaso and their numerous followers into the party as a “bold and well-calculated decision.”
Alum expressed optimism that the NDC would play a leading role in what he termed the “liberation of Nigeria” in 2027.
The emerging coalition between the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement and the NDC in Ebonyi is seen by political observers as part of a broader realignment aimed at strengthening opposition forces and presenting a united front ahead of the next general elections.
