The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, has commended the labour-friendly policies of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, as he donated ₦5 million to support workers in the state.
Ogah made the donation on Thursday during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where he joined thousands of workers to mark the annual event.
Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker praised the resilience and dedication of Ebonyi workers, noting that their contributions remain central to the state’s socio-economic development.
He stressed that the progress of any society depends largely on the commitment and productivity of its workforce.
As part of activities marking the celebration, Ogah, through the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, announced a ₦5 million donation aimed at assisting workers with transportation costs.
He said the gesture was part of his continued efforts to support workers’ welfare and improve their living conditions.
Ogah also lauded Governor Nwifuru’s administration for what he described as pragmatic and worker-friendly reforms, particularly the implementation of a ₦90,000 minimum wage and the payment of a ₦150,000 annual Christmas bonus to workers.
According to him, the policies reflect a commitment to inclusive governance and improved welfare for civil servants.
He urged workers to remain dedicated to their duties, emphasizing that sustained productivity would further enhance development across the state.
The event was attended by top government officials, labour leaders and other stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor, Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, who represented the governor, and the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Ije Odunwa.
Workers’ Day, celebrated annually on May 1, provides an opportunity to recognise the contributions of workers and advocate for improved labour conditions nationwide.
