The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has named a Chartered Accountant, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun, as its Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Her emergence was confirmed on Sunday during the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, shortly after the endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate.
Adegunwa-Balogun, an indigene of Ososa Town in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state, is the daughter of industrialist, Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of RITE Foods.
Announcing the decision, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said the choice was made after careful consideration and wide consultations within the party leadership structure.
Abiodun explained that the selection process reflected the APC’s commitment to inclusiveness and internal democracy, noting that the party’s approach to consensus building in the state had set a standard for others to follow.
He commended party members who stepped down in line with the consensus arrangement, adding that such loyalty and sacrifice would not go unrewarded as some of them would be considered for appointments in government.
Also speaking, the governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Solomon Adeola, said the choice of Adegunwa-Balogun as his running mate followed extensive consultations and careful screening of several qualified aspirants.
Adeola noted that she was selected from among 17 women who expressed interest in the position, describing her as competent and well-suited for the role.
He also appreciated Governor Abiodun for his leadership and support in ensuring a smooth and rancour-free selection process within the party.
In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun expressed gratitude to the party leadership and the governor for the confidence reposed in her, pledging to justify the trust placed in her.
She promised to work closely with the governorship candidate to deliver good governance and further the development of Ogun State, describing her nomination as a reflection of the party’s commitment to unity and inclusiveness.
