The political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum at the weekend as the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared that "the battle line has been drawn," pledging to secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and record victories in all elective positions.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the declaration during an interactive session with elected and appointed government officials at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, where he directed all political appointees who are yet to register with the APC to do so immediately.
The governor said the party was fully committed to President Tinubu's second-term bid, stressing that every government official had a responsibility to strengthen the APC and mobilise support for the President ahead of the 2027 elections.
"The APC administration in Kano has no apology for supporting President Tinubu," Yusuf said, adding that the state was determined to deliver overwhelming votes for the President and ensure the party's victory in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, State House of Assembly and local government elections.
He maintained that political appointees must actively identify with the ruling party, describing party membership and grassroots mobilisation as critical to achieving the APC's electoral objectives.
As part of measures aimed at boosting the welfare of political aides, Governor Yusuf approved the allocation of plots of land to more than 300 aides, including Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Senior Special Reporters, Special Reporters and Personal Assistants. Each beneficiary will also receive a cash grant of N100,000.
The development comes months before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections and is expected to further shape political alignments in Kano State.
Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, also defended the administration's support for President Tinubu, insisting that the APC had no reason to apologise for promoting the President's achievements.
Similarly, the APC Chairman in Kano State, Umar Haruna Doguwa, declared that "the battle line has been drawn" between the ruling party and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, expressing confidence that the APC would reclaim political dominance in the state in the next general election.
At the end of the meeting, elected and appointed government officials passed a vote of confidence on President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf, while pledging to intensify grassroots mobilisation to ensure the APC's victory at all levels in 2027.
Meanwhile, former Kano State Governor and former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has distanced himself from reports alleging that he accused the Kano State Government of mismanaging public funds.
In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the report as false, misleading and politically motivated, insisting that he never granted any interview making such allegations.
The former governor said he would continue to offer advice on governance through established channels as an elder statesman rather than making inflammatory public statements, adding that legal action would be taken against those responsible for circulating the report.
