A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Eze Chukwuemekas Eze, has urged the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to pick former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.
Eze, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said Amaechi possesses the leadership experience, political influence and grassroots support needed to strengthen the ADC's chances of defeating the ruling APC in 2027.
He argued that Amaechi played a critical role in the coalition-building efforts that led to Atiku's emergence as the party's presidential candidate and should be rewarded with the vice-presidential slot.
According to Eze, overlooking Amaechi could create disaffection among his supporters within the ADC and undermine the party's collective vision ahead of the general election.
The former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New PDP (nPDP) described Amaechi as a tested political strategist whose contributions to opposition politics and democratic development in Nigeria cannot be ignored.
He also congratulated Atiku on securing the ADC presidential ticket and commended his efforts to unite party stakeholders, urging him to assemble a strong team capable of rescuing Nigeria from insecurity, economic hardship and poor governance.
Eze pledged his continued support for Atiku's presidential ambition and expressed confidence in the former vice president's ability to provide purposeful leadership if elected president in 2027.
