Governor Alex Otti's quest for a second term in office has received a major boost following his endorsement by a coalition of professionals, industrialists and influential non-political leaders from Abia North Senatorial District, who cited his administration's transformational achievements across key sectors of the state.
The endorsement was made at the inaugural meeting of the Alliance for Good Governance in Abia State, a non-political and non-partisan group comprising accomplished professionals, captains of industry, opinion leaders and stakeholders from the five local government areas of Abia North.
The meeting, held on Saturday at the residence of Chief Ebueme Ezikpe in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area, ended with a unanimous resolution backing Governor Otti for a second term in office.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the group's spokesman and former Secretary to the Abia State Government, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, said the gathering was convened to deliberate on ways of sustaining the template of good governance established by the Otti administration.
According to him, participants drawn from Bende, Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Areas unanimously agreed that the governor's performance had justified the call for continuity.
Prof. Mkpa stated that members of the group, who have no personal political ambitions, based their endorsement solely on what they described as the governor's exceptional leadership and visible developmental strides across the state.
He noted that speakers at the meeting commended the administration's achievements in education, road infrastructure, healthcare delivery, agriculture, security, transportation and public service reforms, describing them as unprecedented in the state's recent history.
The former SSG said Governor Otti had demonstrated a strong commitment to prudent management of public resources and people-oriented governance, adding that his administration had restored public confidence in government.
He explained that the Alliance for Good Governance in Abia State would continue to mobilise support for policies and programmes that promote transparency, accountability and sustainable development.
The stakeholders maintained that continuity in governance would consolidate the gains already recorded by the present administration and ensure the completion of ongoing development projects across the state.
They urged Abians, irrespective of political affiliation, to support Governor Otti's re-election bid in order to sustain the momentum of development and good governance.
The endorsement adds to the growing wave of support for Governor Otti ahead of the next governorship election, with various groups and stakeholders across the state citing his administration's performance as justification for another term.
