The Coordinator of Ebonyi Development Centre, Dr. Destiny Uchenna Nwodom, has distributed 16 brand-new motorcycles to beneficiaries across the development centre as part of efforts to deepen economic empowerment and improve livelihoods at the grassroots within three years in office.
The empowerment programme, held at the Development Centre headquarters in Odomoke, brings the total number of motorcycles distributed by the coordinator to 20 since the inception of his administration.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Nwodom said the initiative was designed to boost the economic fortunes of beneficiaries and extend the dividends of democracy to the people.
He expressed gratitude to the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve as coordinator, noting that the platform had enabled him to advance the administration's People's Charter of Needs agenda at the grassroots.
According to him, the empowerment programme underscores the commitment of the state government to improving the welfare of citizens through people-centred policies and interventions.
"Though this empowerment may not have reached everyone at this stage, I assure our people that, with time, we will do even more to extend the dividends of democracy to every corner of our development centre," he said.
Nwodom also used the occasion to endorse Governor Nwifuru as the sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election, alongside all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He commended the governor for his purposeful leadership and sustained commitment to grassroots development.
Our correspondent gathered at the event that beyond the distribution of motorcycles, Nwodom has implemented several impactful interventions within the last three years.
The projects include the construction of a residential building for a widow whose home was destroyed by fire during the harmattan season, construction of classroom blocks, provision of boreholes, rehabilitation and construction of culverts, award of scholarships and bursaries to deserving students, and facilitation of other community development projects across the development centre.
Beneficiaries described the gesture as timely and impactful, especially amid prevailing economic challenges.
Community leaders, including the State’s Principal Secretary and representative of the Governor, Chief Matthias Adum, commended Nwodom for prioritising initiatives that directly address the needs of the people and urged other public office holders to emulate his grassroots-oriented approach to governance.
