The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has expressed confidence that the ongoing Ebonyi–Benue–Abuja Link Road will significantly transform the economy of the South East and adjoining regions upon completion.
Speaking during an inspection of the project along the Mbeke–Ishieke axis on Sunday, Senator Nwebonyi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving and funding the strategic road project, describing it as a major infrastructure intervention that will improve connectivity, facilitate trade and enhance socio-economic development.
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, particularly the ongoing earthworks, and urged the contractor to sustain the current momentum to ensure timely completion.
Nwebonyi said the project was a direct response to his appeal to the Federal Government to construct the road, noting that the administration had demonstrated its commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits in the region.
He said the highway would provide one of the shortest routes linking the South East and South South to Abuja, while connecting Ebonyi and Benue states, two of Nigeria's leading agricultural producers.
According to him, the road will ease the movement of people and goods, reduce travel time, lower transportation costs and stimulate commercial activities along the corridor.
The senator noted that improved access between the two states would strengthen agricultural value chains, promote investment opportunities and enhance regional integration, thereby contributing to national economic growth.
He also expressed optimism that the people of the South East and South South would appreciate the Federal Government's commitment to infrastructure development, saying the administration's efforts would not go unnoticed by the beneficiaries.
Nwebonyi reiterated his appreciation to President Tinubu for approving the project and called on residents of the benefiting communities to continue supporting the contractor by providing a peaceful environment for the successful execution of the work.
The Ebonyi–Benue–Abuja Link Road is expected to improve interstate connectivity, boost commerce and provide a critical transportation corridor linking the South East and South South with the nation's capital and other parts of the country.
