The people of Ezza Ezekuna nation in Ebonyi State have endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 governorship election, while also declaring full support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming polls.
The endorsement was announced during a large political rally held at Onueke, which attracted thousands of supporters, political stakeholders, and community leaders from across Ezza land.
Reading the communiqué of the gathering, Prof. Chike Onwe stated that the endorsement of Governor Nwifuru was the “collective, binding and non-negotiable political position” of the Ezza Ezekuna people, adding that the community had resolved to speak with one voice ahead of the 2027 elections.
The communiqué further warned that no son or daughter of Ezza extraction should contest the governorship or deputy governorship position against Governor Nwifuru under any political platform, stressing that such action would be viewed as a violation of the collective will of the people.
It also directed all political office holders, appointees, party leaders, and stakeholders from the area to align strictly with the resolution and promote the re-election bid of the governor, while pledging support for APC candidates across all elective positions.
Representing the governor at the event, Deputy Governor Patricia Obila expressed appreciation for the overwhelming show of support, describing the turnout as a strong demonstration of confidence in the present administration.
Obila recalled that the administration had promised during the 2023 campaigns to transform Ezza land into a globally recognised hub, noting that key projects such as the establishment of the international airport in Onueke were already fulfilling that pledge.
She disclosed that the airport has begun receiving private jets and would soon commence full commercial operations as expansion works continue to improve its capacity and infrastructure.
The deputy governor, who described Ezza as her “second home,” assured the people that the administration would continue to deliver more developmental projects and deepen democratic dividends before the end of its current tenure, while promising greater impact if re-elected in 2027.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, commended the Ezza people for their sustained support for the administration, stating that the community had witnessed unprecedented peace and development under Governor Nwifuru.
He noted that several communities in Ezza land, which previously experienced insecurity and communal crises, had been stabilised through government-led peace initiatives involving respected community leaders.
According to him, residents of the area now enjoy improved security and can move freely without fear, attributing the progress to the governor’s conflict resolution approach.
The commissioner also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development, empowerment programmes, and scholarship opportunities for indigenes, including students studying in institutions abroad.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Ezza North Local Government Area, Chief Innocent Ugo Chima, Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Jude Okpor, and other political stakeholders from the area.
