Looking at the trajectory of Kenneth Okonkwo, the movie actor turned politician, a good student of events would readily agreed, that the former is following the precedent and a pitiable outcome of the former Philippines President, Joseph Estrada.
Joseph Estrada, like Kenneth Okonkwo leveraged his massive popularity as a swashbuckling, pro-poor action movie star to build a formidable political career, rising from a long-time mayor to Senator and Vice President.
Running on the populist slogan - he secured a historic landslide victory in the 1998 Philippine presidential election.
However, his administration as President of Philippines was quickly overshadowed by allegations of severe cronyism and corruption, which triggered public outburst. The Philippines witnessed the exact opposite of what the man projected in movies and demanded his exit. Consequently, in 2001, he was impeached, thus becoming the first Asian President to be impeached from office.
Witness that Kenneth Okonkwo, larger than life image was paved by the movie industry! Which has helped him secured strategic portfolios in any of the political parties he pitched his tent. However, his unguided utterance and defamatory statements has exposed him as a simpleton, overated, and a misplaced personality. The tether his credibility panders right now is irredeemable and his consignment to eternal oblivion is as the day follows the night!
