The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged replacement of candidates, insisting that the party remains united and stable.
The movement described the reports as unfounded and urged members of the public to disregard what it termed media speculation aimed at creating the impression of a crisis within the party.
Speaking on the development on Monday, the spokesman of the movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said there was no truth in claims that the Kwankwasiyya bloc was considering exiting the NDC over alleged alterations to the party's candidate list.
According to Mohammed, neither Kwankwaso nor the Kwankwasiyya structure had raised any objection to decisions taken by the party regarding the nomination and submission of candidates.
He explained that the party's primaries were conducted on May 29 in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with winners duly confirmed on the same day.
Mohammed noted that the process was transparent and followed established procedures, contrary to reports suggesting that certain candidates were unfairly replaced.
The spokesman further stated that stakeholders within the NDC had earlier agreed on a consensus-based approach where necessary, a development he said guided the selection and submission of candidates without generating internal disputes.
He maintained that there had been no breakdown of communication or disagreement between the party leadership and the Kwankwasiyya Movement over candidate nominations.
Mohammed also stressed that Senator Kwankwaso had not communicated any grievance to the movement concerning the issue and had not threatened to abandon the party as reported by some media platforms.
He added that any concerns relating to candidate adjustments or internal party arrangements should be addressed by the appropriate organs of the party, which remain functional and committed to ensuring unity among members.
"The reports alleging tension within the party and a possible defection by Senator Kwankwaso are false and should be ignored. The NDC remains united, stable and committed to its democratic processes," Mohammed said.
The movement reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the party and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at strengthening internal cohesion ahead of future political activities.
The clarification comes amid widespread speculation over alleged disagreements within the NDC following the submission of candidates for elective positions.
However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement insisted that there is no crisis in the party, emphasizing that members remain focused on consolidating the party's structures and advancing its political objectives.
