The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed that there are no bandits or suspected Fulani herdsmen operating in Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area of the state, following a comprehensive security sweep of the area.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, referenced AZ.:5200/EBS/PPRO/VOL.9/69.
The Command said the clarification became necessary following a viral social media video and report alleging an invasion of the community by armed bandits and suspected herders, a claim which it described as false and misleading.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, immediately ordered a verification exercise after the report began circulating online.
The Command further disclosed that tactical units from Police Headquarters were deployed to Nguzu Edda, where they conducted thorough search-and-combing operations across bushes and adjoining communities.
“Following a detailed operation, the Command wishes to categorically state that there are no bandits or Fulani herdsmen in Nguzu Edda Community,” the statement read.
It added that the viral video was the handiwork of mischief makers aimed at causing panic and disrupting the peace of the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, urged members of the public to disregard the false report and continue to go about their lawful activities without fear.
The Command reassured residents of sustained security presence across the state and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order.
It also called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police formation or through official emergency lines.
Nguzu Edda Community, where the rumour originated, was said to be calm at the time of filing this report, following the completion of the police verification exercise.
