A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State, Hon. Faruk Mustapha, has resigned from the party, saying consultations are ongoing over his next political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mustapha, who served as the Director-General of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed's 2023 governorship campaign and was also a former Commissioner for Special Duties and Rural Development, formally communicated his resignation in a letter dated May 5, 2026.
The resignation letter, titled "Letter of Resignation from Membership of the Allied Peoples' Movement (APM)," was addressed to the APM State Chairman through the Ward Chairman of Nasarawa Bakin Kasuwa Ward in Katagum Local Government Area.
The former governorship aspirant had sought the APM ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial election but lost out after the party nominated former Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, as its candidate.
In the letter, Mustapha stated: "I write to formally tender my resignation from my membership of the Allied Peoples' Movement (APM), with Membership Number APM/05/BAU/012, with effect from May 5, 2026. This resignation takes immediate effect from the date stated above."
He added that he was relinquishing all rights, privileges, responsibilities and obligations associated with his membership of the party and requested that his name be removed from the party's membership register and official records.
Mustapha also expressed appreciation to the party's leadership for the opportunities and cooperation extended to him during his time in the APM.
"I sincerely appreciate the support, cooperation and opportunities extended to me by the party and its leadership at all levels during my period of membership. Kindly accept this letter as official notification of my resignation and update your records accordingly," he said.
Speaking with journalists, Mustapha confirmed his resignation, explaining that the decision followed wide consultations and was taken in the best interest of his political future.
He, however, declined to disclose his next political destination, saying consultations were still ongoing and that he would make his decision public in due course.
"There have been extensive consultations, and very soon Nigerians and the people of Bauchi State will know where I stand politically ahead of the 2027 general elections," he said.
Meanwhile, political observers have continued to speculate that the former member of the House of Representatives could be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with unconfirmed reports suggesting he may emerge as the running mate to the party's governorship candidate in Bauchi State.
However, neither Mustapha nor the APC has officially confirmed the speculation.
