The All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Okpuitumo Ward 12 in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Comrade Nwuga Ugochukwu, has paid over ₦100,000 for the successful surgical treatment of an indigent boy suffering from a long-standing hernia.
The beneficiary, Nweze Munachimso, had reportedly lived with the condition for several years after his family was unable to raise the money required for corrective surgery, resulting in a gradual deterioration of his health.
Touched by the boy's predicament, Nwuga directed the family to take him to the hospital, where he authorised the necessary medical examinations and surgical procedure at his personal expense.
Speaking after the successful operation, the APC councillorship candidate said he could not ignore the suffering of the young boy after learning that financial hardship had denied him access to the treatment he desperately needed.
"I was deeply touched when I heard about the condition of this boy. I was informed that he had lived with the hernia for years because his family could not afford the cost of surgery.
"I decided to help in order to save his life. I thank God that the operation was successful, and I believe he will recover fully and return to his normal life very soon," Nwuga said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Okpuitumo Ward 12, pledging that if elected into the Abakaliki Legislative Council, he would champion policies and programmes aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare services, especially for vulnerable and low-income residents.
According to him, public service should be anchored on compassion, selfless service and a genuine commitment to improving the welfare of the people, regardless of their social or economic status.
The father of the beneficiary, whose name was not immediately available, expressed profound appreciation to Nwuga for what he described as a life-saving intervention.
He said the family had exhausted every available option without success due to financial constraints and prayed for God's continued blessings and protection upon the APC candidate for restoring hope to his son.
Residents of Okpuitumo Ward 12 also commended the humanitarian gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that rescued a family that had nearly lost hope of securing the much-needed medical treatment for their child.
