The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has unveiled activities lined up for the celebration of the 2026 International Youth Week, with a renewed commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable development.
The week-long programme, themed "Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Future," is scheduled to hold from August 6 to August 12, 2026, and is expected to bring together youths, government officials, stakeholders, development partners and members of the public to discuss issues affecting young people and good governance.
According to the programme released by the State Chairman of the NYCN, Hon. Douglas Ochishi, the celebration will commence with an opening ceremony, followed by an independent good governance project tour across selected locations in the state.
Other activities outlined for the event include a sensitisation campaign against social vices aimed at promoting responsible behaviour among youths, as well as a good governance road walk to advocate accountability, transparency and active youth participation in governance.
The council also disclosed that a press conference and interactive session with the media and stakeholders would be organised to highlight the role of youths in nation-building and sustainable development.
The grand finale of the celebration will feature a public lecture expected to address contemporary youth development issues, while a good governance dinner night will provide an opportunity for networking and recognition of outstanding contributions to youth advancement.
The week-long activities will conclude with a church thanksgiving service.
The grand finale is scheduled to hold at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Ochishi called on youths across Ebonyi State and other stakeholders to participate actively in the celebration, stressing that the programme is designed to promote youth inclusion, good governance and sustainable national development.
He noted that the celebration aligns with the council's vision of building responsible and productive young people capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth of the state and the nation.
The council adopted the slogan, "Build the Youth, Build the Nation," while extending an open invitation to members of the public to participate in the activities.
