The Chairman Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport Hon. Deacon Joseph Ununu has commended the General Manager of Ebonyi State Transport Corporation, Mrs Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, for driving reforms which brought tangible relief to commuters across the state.
Hon. Ununu who gave the commendation during an oversight visit of the Committee to EBOTRANS headquarters, noted that effective leadership should be judged by impact, not promises.
According to Hon Ununu “The strategy introduced by the General Manager has enhanced daily living and stimulated economic growth. EBOTRANS has witnessed remarkable transformation under Mrs. Igwe’s leadership.
He highlighted the procurement of brand new Sienna vehicles, rehabilitation of grounded buses, and expansion of routes to key destinations within and outside Ebonyi as landmark achievements in the history of the corporation.
Hon. Ununu also applauded the Governor of Ebonyi State His Excellency Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for prioritizing transportation under the “People’s Charter of Needs,” stressing that the administration’s commitment is evident in projects citizens can see and benefit from.
The Committee Chairman called for stronger collaboration between the House Committee on Transport and EBOTRANS to create a seamless pathway for further growth in the state’s transport sector.
In their separate contributions, the Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Lucas Arinze Chukwu member representing Izzi West, Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri and member representing Izzi East, Hon. Obinna Mbam, urged the EBOTRANS management to furnish the Committee with detailed reports of the corporation’s activities while
Hon. Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodoof Ebonyi North West and Hon. Victor Nwoke of Abakaliki North further charged the General Manager to sustain the current tempo.
Responding, the General Manager, Mrs. Jennifer Nnenna Igwe, described the oversight visit as historic and expressed appreciation for the goodwill of the lawmakers.
She outlined the corporation’s achievements to include
Purchase of new Sienna vehicle, Opening of new routes at Iboko, Ikwo, Uburu, Enugu, Ovuduechi, and Lagos , Rehabilitation of non-functional vehicles, Payment of gratuity to retired staff, Payment of rent for depots and transit, camps outside the state, Prompt maintenance and servicing of vehicles.
Mrs. Nnenna Igwe, identified outstanding challenges confronting the corporation to include outstanding gratuity payments, depot and transit camp rents outside the state, and the absence of a modern workshop.
The EBOTRANS General Manager appealed to the State Government and the House Committee on Transport for intervention to boost EBOTRANS’ capacity to deliver affordable and efficient transport services.
In a vote of thanks, the Operational Manager, Mr. Innocent Obiahu Egwu assured the Committee of EBOTRANS’ continued partnership to ensure seamless transport progress for the people of Ebonyi State.
