A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People's Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of allegedly sponsoring a campaign against former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, insisting that no political plot would stop the ADC from winning the 2027 presidential election.
Eze made the allegation in a statement issued on Tuesday while reacting to comments credited to a group known as the Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum, which reportedly urged the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, not to pick Amaechi as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The ADC stalwart described the group as a "faceless organisation" and dismissed its position as politically motivated, alleging that it bore the characteristics of what he called Wike's propaganda machinery.
According to him, the repeated attacks on Amaechi by anonymous groups were evidence that the former Minister of Transportation remained a significant political force whose growing acceptance across the country was unsettling to political opponents.
Eze argued that if Amaechi had truly become politically irrelevant, as some critics claimed, there would be no reason for sustained efforts to undermine his possible emergence as the ADC vice-presidential candidate.
He maintained that Amaechi's political credentials, which include serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Director-General of the 2015 presidential campaign and Minister of Transportation, had earned him national respect and influence.
The former nPDP spokesman further stated that elections were not won solely through local political structures but through credibility, leadership, strategic alliances and public confidence, qualities he said Amaechi possessed in abundance.
Eze also faulted what he described as attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the ADC, stressing that the choice of a running mate remained the exclusive responsibility of the party and its presidential candidate.
He alleged that no amount of sponsored media attacks, blackmail or intimidation would influence the party's decision, expressing confidence that Nigerians could distinguish between genuine political discourse and politically motivated propaganda.
The ADC chieftain further criticised Wike, alleging that the FCT Minister had become preoccupied with political battles against Amaechi instead of concentrating on the administration of the nation's capital.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the statement credited to the Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum, insisting that it neither represented the interests of the South nor reflected the views of genuine progressives.
Eze maintained that Amaechi's contributions to national development could not be erased through what he described as sponsored falsehoods, adding that history would ultimately vindicate the former Rivers governor.
He also expressed confidence that no "satanic machination" or political conspiracy would prevent an Atiku-Amaechi ticket from emerging victorious in the 2027 general election, while alleging that those driven by jealousy over Amaechi's political achievements would eventually be put to shame.
Neither Wike nor the Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum had responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
