A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New PDP, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has expressed profound grief over the death of the mother of former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, describing the late matriarch as the moral compass behind the former governor's exemplary public service.
In a condolence message issued on Friday, Eze mourned the passing of the late Mrs. Mary Amaechi, who died at the age of 89, saying her death was a painful loss not only to the Amaechi family but also to all who benefited from her wisdom, compassion and unwavering Christian faith.
He described the deceased as a woman of humility, dignity and selfless service whose life reflected the virtues of godliness, integrity, peace and love for humanity.
"It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of Mama Mary Amaechi. Although death is an inevitable end for every mortal, the departure of a mother leaves a void that can never truly be filled," Eze said.
According to him, the late Mrs. Amaechi lived a purposeful and fulfilled life, adding that her influence extended beyond her immediate family through the values she instilled in her son, whose contributions to governance and national development have earned widespread recognition.
"Mama lived a long, purposeful and fulfilled life. She was not merely the mother of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; she was the moral compass and quiet strength behind a man whose contributions to the development of Rivers State and Nigeria have earned him national and international recognition.
The values of discipline, courage, resilience and service that have distinguished Amaechi's public life undoubtedly bear the imprint of the quality of upbringing he received from his mother," he stated.
Eze further noted that the late matriarch was widely respected as a devoted Christian, community leader and unifying figure whose legacy would continue to inspire generations.
He urged the former minister, his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, their children and the entire Amaechi family to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived an honourable life devoted to God and humanity.
"To my principal, leader, associate and brother, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, I extend my deepest condolences. I share in your grief at this difficult moment and pray that the Almighty God grants you and every member of your family the strength, courage and grace to bear this painful loss," Eze said.
The ADC chieftain also sympathised with the people of Ubima, the Ikwerre ethnic nationality, friends and political associates of the former governor, noting that the late Mrs. Amaechi's kindness and motherly affection touched many lives.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and asked God to comfort all those mourning her passing.
"Mama Mary Amaechi lived well, loved sincerely, served faithfully and departed honourably. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may God continue to uphold the family she so lovingly nurtured," Eze added.
