A Community Health Officer and herbal practitioner, Chief Mrs. Ozioma Eze Igwe, is set to be conferred with the chieftaincy title of Eze Nwanyi Oka Ibe I by the National Union of Medical and Herbal Practitioners (NUMHP), Ebonyi State Chapter.
The decision to honour Mrs. Igwe was reached during the union's general meeting held at Akadike Suites, Abakaliki, where members unanimously approved the conferment in recognition of what they described as her outstanding contributions to herbal practice and service to humanity.
Mrs. Igwe, who serves as the Deputy Woman Leader of the union in Ebonyi State, hails from Ndiegu Akparata, Izhiamgbo Urevene Amechi in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Born in 1987, she attended Amechi Urevene Primary School before proceeding to Abarigwe Amechi Oswa Secondary School, where she obtained her Senior School Certificate in 2007. She later enrolled at the School of Health Technology, Orji River, where she qualified as a Senior Community Health Extension Worker (SCHEW).
Following her training, Mrs. Igwe began her career as a Community Health Officer and midwife. According to members of the union, she also pursued herbal practice, a vocation they said she developed from an early age, combining it with her professional healthcare services.
The union said the chieftaincy title is intended to acknowledge her commitment to the growth of traditional medicine and her contributions to healthcare delivery within and beyond Ebonyi State.
The coronation ceremony is scheduled for August 18, 2026, and is expected to attract traditional rulers, government officials, members of the medical and herbal practitioners' community, family members and well-wishers from across the state.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mrs. Igwe's uncle, Chief Oke Innocent Amoka, described her as a dedicated practitioner who has positively impacted many lives through her services.
He commended the National Union of Medical and Herbal Practitioners for recognising their daughter, expressing confidence that she would continue to uphold the values associated with the honour.
"I commend the union for finding her worthy of this recognition. We believe she will justify the confidence reposed in her, because to whom much is given, much is expected," Amoka said.
The National Union of Medical and Herbal Practitioners is a professional body that promotes the practice of traditional medicine and the welfare of its members across the country.
