The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Chief Kevin Chukwu, has declared that he is contesting the House of Representatives election to win and provide purposeful representation for the people, rather than merely to make up the numbers.
Chukwu made the declaration while reacting to social media reports alleging that his candidacy was being sponsored by political opponents or that he was not serious about the contest.
The NDC candidate dismissed the allegations as politically motivated distractions, insisting that he had the grassroots support and political resolve required to mount a serious challenge in the constituency.
He said he would soon commence his grassroots campaign and unveil his manifesto, which, according to him, would focus on the immediate needs and aspirations of the people of Ezza South and Ikwo.
“Those saying I am not serious or that I am not contesting to win are jokers sponsored by my opponents to distract the electorate,” Chukwu said.
“I am prepared to launch my grassroots campaign, where I will unveil a people-centred manifesto that will speak directly to the needs of the people of Ezza South and Ikwo Federal Constituency.”
Chukwu also challenged the continued occupancy of the seat by the incumbent representative, arguing that the lawmaker had completed two terms and should give way to another aspirant in 2027.
“We all know the current person occupying the position. He has been there for two tenures, and it is time for him to come back home for another person to go, because we don't do third term in our constituency,” he said.
The NDC candidate further alleged that some of the incumbent's programmes and projects had not been sufficiently inclusive, claiming that the benefits of representation had not been evenly distributed across the constituency.
According to Chukwu, “the people are already tired of his representation and are ready to bring him home in 2027.”
He urged his supporters and other constituents to disregard what he described as false reports about his candidacy, assuring them that his campaign would soon move fully to the grassroots.
“I wish to call on all our supporters and people of our constituency not to be discouraged by their fake speculations or be intimidated by the APC thugs,” he said.
“By the grace of God, our grassroots campaign will showcase the plans of NDC, and I am certain that all NDC candidates will emerge victorious, right from the presidential candidate down to the State House of Assembly.”
Chukwu also disclosed that his campaign team would be unveiled shortly as part of efforts to strengthen the party's mobilisation structure across Ezza South and Ikwo.
He pledged that, if elected, his legislative agenda would prioritise human empowerment, infrastructural development and the promotion of policies and legislation capable of improving the welfare and economic wellbeing of constituents.
He added that his proposed representation would also seek to contribute to the broader development of Ebonyi State through effective legislative engagement, constituency development initiatives and advocacy for policies that would improve the lives of the people.
The NDC candidate called on eligible voters across the federal constituency to remain focused on the issues and assess candidates based on their programmes, capacity and commitment to service ahead of the 2027 election.
