The Vice-Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Professor Jesse Uneke, has commended the Department of Physiotherapy for supporting the growth and development of the institution through the donation of office equipment.
Uneke gave the commendation during the presentation of the items donated by the department to the University, describing the gesture as a practical demonstration of institutional commitment and a commendable expression of appreciation for the administration's efforts toward advancing the University.
The donated items included standing fans, an iron cabinet, swing-arm chairs and other office equipment intended to enhance the working environment and operational efficiency of the department.
Speaking during the presentation, the Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, Dr. Mrs. Juliet Ekowa, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for his support and commitment to the development of the department and the University at large.
Ekowa said the donation was motivated by the desire of members of the department to appreciate the administration's efforts while contributing their quota to the advancement of the institution.
“We came to say a very big thank you for your kind support and commitment to the development of Physiotherapy Department and the entire University. We are ever ready to give your administration the maximum support to succeed,” she said.
She noted that the Vice-Chancellor had made significant contributions to the growth of the department and the University, adding that his leadership and commitment had inspired members of the department to support institutional development.
The HOD also urged other departments of the University to emulate the gesture by supporting initiatives capable of strengthening the institution and creating a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
Responding, Professor Uneke, on behalf of the University Management, applauded the Department of Physiotherapy for embracing what he described as the University's philosophy of giving back to the system.
He said the gesture demonstrated that members of the University community could contribute meaningfully to the development of the institution from which they derive professional opportunities and benefits.
“I am very happy that everybody has keyed into the philosophy of the University, to learn how to give back to the system they are benefiting from,” Uneke said.
The Vice-Chancellor urged other departments and staff members to adopt the same spirit of institutional ownership, stressing that government alone could not provide all the resources required for the effective development of universities.
He called on staff to sustain their contributions toward the University's growth, noting that collective commitment and support remained critical to building a stronger and more sustainable institution.
