The Ebonyi State Police Command has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Elder Amos Onwe Ubochi, who was reportedly found dead along a bush path in the state shortly after endorsing candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said Ubochi left his residence on August 17, 2026, but failed to return home.
According to the police, information about the discovery of his lifeless body was received on August 18, prompting police operatives to visit the scene.
The statement said the body was subsequently evacuated to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead.
The Command said it had commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Ubochi’s death and identify those responsible, if foul play is established.
“The Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death and identify those responsible,” the police said.
The development comes amid concerns over the circumstances surrounding the death of the elder, who was said to have endorsed APGA candidates in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
The police, however, did not establish any link between his political activities or APGA endorsement and his death, stressing that the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Command assured members of the public that every necessary step would be taken to get to the root of the incident.
It also appealed to anyone with information that could assist investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding Ubochi’s death to come forward.
