The Ebonyi State Ministry of Education, Primary and Secondary Schools, has announced Monday, September 7, 2026, as the resumption date for all approved public, private and faith-based nursery, primary and secondary schools across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
The ministry, in a public service announcement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Primary and Secondary Schools, Dr Donatus Chukwuma Ilang, directed school administrators, teachers and non-teaching staff to report to their respective schools on Monday for the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the announcement, boarding students are expected to return to their schools on Sunday, September 6, to enable them settle down ahead of the commencement of academic activities.
The ministry urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards resume promptly and appear in the appropriate school uniforms and other required kits in accordance with the regulations of their respective schools.
It also directed proprietors and managers of private schools to adhere strictly to the approved state school calendar, curriculum and other regulatory guidelines prescribed by the ministry.
The ministry said monitoring teams would be deployed to schools across the state from the day of resumption to ascertain compliance with the government's directives and ensure a smooth commencement of the new academic session.
The commissioner further urged all stakeholders in the education sector to cooperate with the monitoring teams and other officials of the ministry in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The statement said the Ebonyi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, remained committed to repositioning the education sector through the administration's People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
The ministry called on parents, guardians, school proprietors, teachers, students and other stakeholders to play their respective roles towards ensuring a hitch-free resumption and effective commencement of teaching and learning activities in the new academic year.
Dr Ilang urged school authorities to ensure that the resumption was conducted in line with the approved guidelines, stressing that compliance with the state school calendar remained mandatory for all approved schools in the state.
