The Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Chidiebere Onyemaechi Alo, has urged leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress to strengthen internal cohesion, deepen consultation and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Alo made the call on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting involving the 14 ward councillors, management committee members and APC executives in Abakaliki LGA.
The meeting, held at the council chairman’s residence in Abakaliki, was attended by the APC Chairman in the council area, Chief Paulinus Attam, alongside the party secretary, woman leader, ward councillors, management committee members and other stakeholders.
Alo said sustained engagement among party leaders and elected representatives was necessary to consolidate the party’s structure at the grassroots and address emerging concerns before they degenerated into avoidable divisions.
He charged the ward councillors to adopt an inclusive approach to leadership by regularly consulting stakeholders and carrying their constituents along in decisions affecting their respective wards.
The council boss said, “We must continue to consult, engage one another and resolve our differences amicably. Every stakeholder has a role to play in strengthening our party at the grassroots. We must ensure that our people feel carried along and valued.”
He also urged party members to resist actions capable of undermining unity, stressing that disagreements should be addressed through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect.
Beyond party mobilisation, Alo reassured residents that his administration would remain focused on grassroots development, with emphasis on youth empowerment, healthcare, education, security and other programmes targeted at improving the welfare of residents.
He commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for the distribution of fertiliser to farmers across the state, saying the intervention would boost agricultural production and contribute to food security.
In their separate contributions, Attam, the APC woman leader, secretary, ward councillors and management committee members addressed issues raised during the meeting and expressed support for greater cooperation and grassroots engagement.
The stakeholders thereafter renewed their commitment to strengthening the party’s internal cohesion and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a related development, Alo received members of the Ikeduoha Foundation, led by its National President, Prince Ikechukwu Uzor Igwe, who paid him a solidarity visit.
The council chairman thanked the foundation for its support since the inception of his administration and urged its members to sustain the partnership for the development of the council area.
Alo also called on the foundation to mobilise support for APC candidates in the 2027 elections, while assuring its members of continued inclusion in his administration’s empowerment programmes and other initiatives.
Earlier, Igwe commended the chairman for what he described as his commitment to improving the welfare of Abakaliki residents.
He particularly praised the distribution of fertiliser to farmers across the 14 wards, saying the intervention would enhance agricultural production and food sufficiency.
Igwe reaffirmed the foundation’s readiness to mobilise its members in support of APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
