The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, as the party intensifies grassroots mobilisation across the state.
The state APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, disclosed this during the party’s mobilisation activities in Egor and Oredo Local Government Areas of Edo State, where Governor Monday Okpebholo led party leaders in engaging members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tenebe said the party’s mobilisation machinery had been activated across the state, expressing confidence that the target was achievable.
He said the APC’s performance in the recently concluded local government elections provided the basis for the party’s projection, claiming that it secured 2,158,600 votes during the exercise.
“We did it before during the local government elections where we gathered 2,158,600 votes. This has shown that the 2.5 million votes is very achievable. The governor is a party man and the party is doing well,” Tenebe said.
Okpebholo, who visited party members in the two local government areas despite heavy rainfall, urged APC supporters to sustain their support for the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
The governor said his administration would continue to pursue its development agenda while strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.
“The turnout today in all the places visited in Egor and Oredo despite the rain speaks volumes of the love for the party and all our candidates in the general election, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Okpebholo said.
He added, “I am standing in the gap for President Tinubu and know we are all committed to ensuring we deliver 2.5 million votes for his re-election in 2027.”
The governor urged residents to support APC candidates contesting the Senate, House of Representatives and Edo State House of Assembly elections, while appealing to party members to remain united and committed to the party’s programmes.
He also said his administration was working to rehabilitate roads across the state, particularly those inherited in poor condition.
“The bad roads in the State didn’t happen today, but the roads have been there before we came to power, but we are working to ensure all the bad roads are fixed,” he said, adding that the government would work to make roads across the state motorable.
The Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, also urged APC members to sustain their support for the party and its candidates, while Tenebe called for greater grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
The latest mobilisation exercise forms part of the APC’s broader ward- and polling-unit-level strategy to consolidate its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party has indicated that the mobilisation would extend from the state and local government levels to wards and individual polling units.
