The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, has alleged that a group he described as the “Rainbow Confusion” is planning to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
Pidomson made the allegation in a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, accusing unnamed powerful political interests of allegedly plotting to compromise the electoral process.
He specifically alleged that the group, which he linked to the Rainbow Coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was preparing to interfere with the conduct of the election.
According to him, the alleged plan involved the hijacking of electoral materials and the falsification of results.
“The Rainbow Confusion and their allies are not planning a free and fair election in 2027.
“Their only plan is to hijack election materials, write fake results, and enslave you and your children,” he said.
Pidomson further alleged that the group was deploying financial inducements and food items as part of its mobilisation strategy, claiming that such activities were intended to influence voters ahead of the election.
“They bring you money and food to deceive you and keep you bound. They want you to vote for them again so your suffering continues,” he added.
The ADC candidate urged Rivers voters to resist what he described as attempts to compromise their political choices, saying collective action could frustrate any alleged plan to manipulate the election.
“But the moment we rise and stand up together, their power will break, and our freedom will come,” he stated.
The allegations come against the backdrop of heightened political activity in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Pidomson emerged as the ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State, with the party subsequently naming David Amapakaye Okumgba as his running mate.
The party said the ticket was anchored on good governance, accountability, economic growth, security and equal opportunities.
The ADC candidate's latest allegation was not accompanied in the statement by specific evidence identifying electoral materials, locations or individuals allegedly involved in the purported plan.
The 2027 governorship election is expected to attract intense political competition as parties and their candidates intensify mobilisation across the state.
Meanwhile, electoral authorities and security agencies are expected to ensure that the election is conducted in accordance with relevant electoral laws and regulations.
Pidomson's allegations therefore place renewed emphasis on the need for all political actors, election officials and security agencies to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that voters are allowed to freely exercise their franchise.
