Stakeholders of the autonomous communities that make up Ishieke Mgbomeze in Ebonyi State have declared their collective support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held at the Ndioke Ndiebor Ishieke Unity Hall, where community leaders, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, government appointees and elected representatives deliberated on issues of development, security, unity and the political future of the area.
The meeting was attended by prominent indigenes and political stakeholders, including Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North Senatorial District; the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Matthias Adum; former Ebonyi Local Government Chairman, Prince Chinedu Augustine Uburu; Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Paul Awoh Nwobashi; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Uchenna Igwe; and member representing Ebonyi North-West Constituency, Hon. Aloysius Nwodo.
Others included former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Nwankwo; Chief Boniface Iziogo; Chief Chris Uchaji; Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Senate, Hon. Kenneth Ochigbo; President of the Izhi Nnodo Youth Forum, Comrade Andrew Chibueze Elom; Prof. Adaeze Nwuzor; Development Centre coordinators; the six traditional rulers of Ishieke Mgbomeze extraction; and other political and community leaders.
The stakeholders examined issues bordering on community development, internal cohesion, security and the need for sustained collaboration among the various communities.
At the end of the deliberations, the gathering adopted a resolution backing the re-election of Governor Nwifuru and Senator Nwebonyi, as well as other APC candidates contesting the 2027 elections.
The motion for the declaration was moved by Nwodo, who represents Ebonyi North-West Constituency, and seconded by Ochigbo, a former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and currently Senior Special Assistant to the President of the Senate.
The resolution effectively articulated the political position adopted by the stakeholders at the meeting and underscored their call for unity of purpose ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
The development comes against the backdrop of growing political mobilisation in Ebonyi ahead of the 2027 general elections. In June, town union presidents from communities across Ebonyi North also announced support for Nwifuru, Nwebonyi and other APC candidates following consultations among their members.
Nwebonyi has previously publicly backed Nwifuru's bid for a second term, saying in December 2025 that the governor would serve two four-year terms.
The Ishieke Mgbomeze stakeholders, however, also used the meeting to emphasise issues beyond partisan politics, particularly community security, peaceful coexistence and development.
Their resolution therefore placed the political endorsement within a broader agenda of preserving unity and advancing the collective interests of the communities.
The stakeholders called for continued engagement among traditional institutions, elected representatives, political actors and community leadership to ensure that development initiatives and government programmes reach the grassroots.
They further expressed the expectation that their representatives would remain responsive to the needs of the people and sustain constructive engagement with the communities.
The declaration marks a significant mobilisation of grassroots stakeholders in Ishieke Mgbomeze as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
