The National President of the FON Youth Movement and Senior Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Comrade Chinedu Emerike, has commended the state's political leaders for promoting dialogue, equitable power rotation and peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Emerike, in a statement, described the Ebonyi State Leaders and Stakeholders’ Political Summit as a demonstration of political maturity and a significant step towards strengthening unity, inclusiveness and democratic stability.
The summit, held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, endorsed Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second term in 2027 and reaffirmed the governorship zoning arrangement, proposing Ebonyi Central for 2031 and Ebonyi South for 2039.
He said the resolutions underscored the importance of fairness, mutual respect and a sense of belonging among the state's three senatorial districts.
“The significance of this summit goes beyond its political resolutions. It sends a strong message that peace, unity, equity and inclusiveness must remain central to our collective pursuit of a stable and prosperous Ebonyi State,” Emerike said.
He urged youths across the state's 13 local government areas to embrace the resolutions and participate responsibly in the political process, warning against hate speech, misinformation, intimidation and violence capable of undermining peace.
“Ebonyi youths are critical stakeholders in determining the future of our state. Our energy and capacity for mobilisation should be directed towards building bridges across the senatorial districts, promoting peaceful coexistence and creating opportunities for future generations,” he said.
Emerike stressed that equitable power rotation should be complemented by fair distribution of infrastructure, social amenities and economic opportunities across the three zones.
He called on political leaders to sustain dialogue, accommodate divergent views and ensure that governance delivers tangible benefits to communities irrespective of their political affiliations or geographical locations.
The FON Youth Movement president also urged the state government to sustain its development agenda under the People's Charter of Needs, particularly in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and youth empowerment.
He called on political parties, aspirants and their supporters to pursue their ambitions peacefully, respect democratic institutions and work towards orderly elections in 2027.
“The future of Ebonyi cannot be secured through division or political confrontation. It requires responsible leadership and youths who understand that peace is the foundation of development,” Emerike added.
