The Ebonyi State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Youth Engagement, Chief Michael Nwite, has sought collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, to mobilise young people ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwite made the appeal during an engagement with the state leadership of the NYCN at its annex office at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where the Renewed Hope team formally introduced him to the youth council.
The delegation was led by the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Hon. Martins Okwuegbu.
Speaking during the meeting, Nwite underscored the strategic importance of partnering with the NYCN, the umbrella body for youth organisations, to promote good governance, strengthen youth participation in democratic processes and advance development in Ebonyi State and the country.
He said the team's immediate priority was to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, while also seeking continued political support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
Nwite stressed the need for constructive engagement with youth stakeholders, noting that collaboration with established youth organisations was important to expanding political participation and advancing the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Responding, the NYCN Chairman in Ebonyi State, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, reaffirmed the council's commitment to promoting responsible youth participation, democratic development and good governance.
Ochishi, popularly known as the Supreme Youth Council Leader, said young people had an important role to play in shaping the country's democratic process and should be encouraged to participate peacefully and make informed political choices.
He acknowledged what he described as the achievements of the Nwifuru administration in youth development, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, human capital development and scholarship opportunities for Ebonyi indigenes.
The NYCN chairman also acknowledged policy initiatives under Tinubu's administration, particularly those relating to national security, innovation and national development.
He maintained that the council would continue to guide and mobilise young people towards constructive civic engagement, issue-based political participation and peaceful elections as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Ochishi emphasised that youth involvement in politics should be anchored on responsible leadership, respect for democratic principles and a collective commitment to the development of the state and the nation.
He also expressed appreciation to members of the council's executive and principal officers for their participation in the engagement.
Those acknowledged included the Deputy State Chairman, Comrade Stanley Emeka Uzo; State Secretary, Comrade Omenyi Onuoha Nwakpu; Vice Chairman, North, Comrade Joshua Okemini; and State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ali Ikechukwu.
Local government area coordinators, directorate representatives and other principal officers of the council also attended the meeting.
The engagement focused on collaboration between youth organisations and political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections, with emphasis on civic participation, democratic development and peaceful political engagement.
