The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Ebonyi State Command, has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The State Commander of the NFSS, Commander Larry Igwe, made the call in an Independence Anniversary message in which he also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for their commitment to peace, development and the protection of lives and property.
Igwe said the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and address threats to national peace were important to creating an environment conducive to economic activities and social development.
He also acknowledged the Ebonyi State Government’s emphasis on infrastructure, human capital development and grassroots empowerment, noting that stability remained essential to sustaining such initiatives.
“Security remains the bedrock of meaningful development. Without safe communities, investments cannot thrive, businesses cannot prosper and citizens cannot fully realise their potential,” he said.
Igwe said the Ebonyi Command would continue to focus on the protection of forest environments and critical assets while supporting intelligence-led operations and maintaining operational cooperation with other security agencies.
He called on citizens to complement institutional efforts by exercising vigilance, promoting peaceful coexistence and providing timely, credible information on suspicious activities.
According to him, effective collaboration between communities, government institutions and security agencies is necessary to strengthen public safety and create conditions for sustainable development.
“Nigeria’s progress is a collective responsibility. A secure Nigeria is a prosperous Nigeria, and a peaceful Ebonyi is a stronger Ebonyi,” Igwe stated.
The NFSS commander also congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and the people of Ebonyi State on the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation, urging citizens to uphold patriotism, unity and peaceful coexistence.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ebonyi Command to carrying out its responsibilities and contributing to efforts aimed at protecting communities and critical national assets across the state.
