The National Sports Commission (NSC) has scheduled a joint technical meeting and inspection of venues and facilities for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged Coal City Games Enugu 2026, as part of efforts to assess the host state's preparedness for the national sporting event.
The exercise, scheduled to commence with the arrival of participants on Tuesday, October 27, will bring together key stakeholders in Nigerian sports to address technical matters relating to the festival and evaluate the readiness of designated venues and supporting facilities.
According to the schedule, the inspection of venues and facilities will take place on Wednesday, October 28, while the exercise will continue alongside the Joint Technical Meeting on Thursday, October 29. Participants are expected to depart on Friday, October 30.
Expected at the exercise are members of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), secretaries and technical directors of national sports federations, zonal coordinators, directors of sports from the states and media representatives.
The joint exercise is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to review technical requirements, examine the suitability of designated facilities and address operational issues that could affect the successful hosting of the festival.
The inspection will also provide an opportunity to assess the extent to which the designated venues meet the requirements for the various sporting events and identify areas requiring attention ahead of the competition.
The Joint Technical Meeting is a key component of preparations for the festival, given the need for effective coordination between the National Sports Commission, the Enugu State Government, sports federations and other relevant stakeholders.
The engagement is also expected to strengthen communication among the participating institutions and promote a common understanding of the technical and organisational requirements for the Games.
The Coal City Games Enugu 2026 will bring together athletes from across the country to compete in various sporting disciplines, providing a platform for talent discovery, the development of grassroots sports and the identification of athletes capable of representing Nigeria at national and international competitions.
The National Sports Festival remains one of the country's major multi-sport events, with its successful organisation dependent on adequate infrastructure, effective planning, technical compliance and collaboration among the relevant authorities.
The outcome of the scheduled inspection and technical deliberations is expected to inform further preparations for the Enugu edition of the festival.
However, the NSC's announcement, as provided, did not specify the full list of venues to be inspected or disclose details of any outstanding facility-related concerns
