Peterside Scholarship Scheme was established on Tuesday 21st September, 2021 by Chief Peter Mbam, the Nwachimereze 1 of Ebonyi State and Ikenga 1 of Malaysia.
The scheme was subsequently flagged off on Thursday 7th October, 2021 with aim at assisting bright students in the payment of their school fees throughout their secondary school education, and to replicate the gesture in their high institution for having a willing spirit to study hard for a better society.
The founder, Chief Peter Mbam said it was part of his initiative to support government in power in education development of the state and maintained that the scheme would be expanded for the benefit of students from other communities in few years time.
However, Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga described the initiative by Mbam as a wonderful one, 'for having known that education is very important and remains the pilar for societal development.'
She noted that many people have zeal to go to school, but could not make it due to one challenge or the other around them.
She further described the scholarship initiative by Mbam as an aggressive campaign to lifting many souls from education backwardness in the area.
She also commended the students who participated the scholarship exam and were able to emerge the beneficiaries for this year while asking them to keep the flag flying.
The Chairman expressed joy that Mbam was gender sensitiive in the selection of the awardees, calling more people to emulate the gesture as part of supporting government in power.
She made cash donations to support the students and advised them to live exemplary life to make their parents and entire society proud, by reading their books and shunning all forms of social vices.
In his remark, the Chairman of the occasion, being the Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Chris Uchaji said that Mbam has discovered the wonderful work of Governor David Umahi's led administration to expand educational infrastructure.
Uchaji appreciated Mbam for the philanthropic gesture, calling others to emulate him, as according to him, it should be a collective effort to develop the society, both academically and otherwise.
In their goodwill messages, the stakeholders from the council area including the immediate past member of Federal Board of Directors, Hon James Nwite, the founder of Nick-Bet Education Foundation, Chief Nick Ochigbo, the Leader of Ebonyi Local Government Legislative Council, Hon Franklin Nwugwu and Coordinator Ebonyi Development Centre, Hon Victor Nwobashi applauded Chief Mbam and prayed God to bless him more to continue to touch lives in mega style.
Some guests who honoured the occasion including the State Treasurer of the NUT, Comrade Chibuzor Nwofoke, the Chairman of NUT in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Mr Ignatius Nwite, Mr Francis Ozibo, among others equally commended Mbam and advised the beneficiaries of the scholarship not to abuse the opportunity.
Also, Comrade Napoleon Chikwa Ozibo who headed the committee for the scholarship exam and the Proprietor of Christ the King Secondary School, Nchoko-Okwu Agalegu Ishieke in Ebonyi LGA, thanked Mbam and described the gesture as a rare experience.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Goodwin Nwogbaga, promised a total commitment to their studies for a greater academic exploits and also prayed God to continue to lift Chief Peter Mbam up, for having invested in them to harness their talents and futures.
Highlights of the occasion were welcome song, cultural dance by the students, distribution of stationery to the students by Chief Peter Mbam, among others.
