The Military Widows Association (MIWA) has appealed to both Federal and State governments to come to their assistance with life touching programmes that would benefit its members to make a better living.
The Leader of the association in Nkwagu Army Barracks, Mrs Luke Ugoagha made the appeal, Saturday, during the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at Cenotaph, Unity Square, Abakaliki.
Mrs Ugoagha said that empowerment of the military widows would enable them to train their children and tackle other challenges facing their families since the death of their husbands.
She said that some of military widows have mature children, some of them are already graduates that need government empowerment to amilorate their sufferings.
"It is because if the widows are empowered, they will be able to take care of their children.
"Even if they are not able to empower the military widows, they should empower our children.
"Some of our children have graduated from one tertiary institution or the other, and some have mature children who have passed out from Senior Secondary schools and they are presently staying at home doing nothing. That's my appeal to those in power," Mrs Ugoagha said.
She prayed that this year 2022 would bring succours to the military widows and their children, asking God to touch the hearts of the leaders of the country to remember them.
On his part, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion Union, Ebonyi State Council, Captain Fidelis Ogodo equally urged those in authourity to build more industries to engage youths meaningfully and not allowing them to join frivolous groups to unleash mayhems in the society as a result of having no job.
"Authority should build more industries, and have more regards for those who are due for retirement.
"This will make the workforce who are due for retirement to give chance for the younger ones," Ogodo added.
