The Founder of the Widow Care Foundation and the wife of the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs Eunice Ukamaka Egwu has celebrated with over 600 widows in the state and each of them were smiling home with five thousand Naira, wrappers, a bag of rice and other food items.
While speaking, Mrs Egwu said the gesture has become annual event, used to celebrate with widows and less privileged persons in the state.
She said the event held at Hope High British School, Abakaliki was an avenue for the foundation to relate with the less privileged, reaching out to widows and the physically challenged persons to demonstrate kindness, and to give them hope through gospels by the Ministers of God.
“The essence of this annual event is to put smiles on the faces of the widows and the less privileged persons to make them happy," Mrs Egwu said.
She urged them to embrace God, saying one becoming a widow does means the end of life.
The Founder said that the donation of food items and money is to aid their physical well being, while the preaching of the gospels was to edify their spirits and to bring their hopes back on God.
Also speaking, Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu, who commended his wife, Ukamaka, for always having the zeal to help the downtrodden, noting that her acts of kindness had been prior to her emergence as the first lady of the state in 1999.
He assured of his continuous support to the foundation, saying the number of the beneficiaries would increase to over one thousand next year in order to touch more lives in the state.
Some of the beneficiaries, Cecelia Abuchi, Nneka Nwoba and Veronica Maxwell, who appreciated their benefactor, also prayed God to keep and continue to bless the founder and her members.
Recall that the event was chaired by the former Chairman of Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, Professor Adline Idike, while the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Sam Egwu served as the Father of the Day with a host of dignitaries within and outside the State that honoured the occasion.
Some of the dignitaries included Chief Idu Igariwey of the House Representatives and Comrade Albert Oketa who represented his Boss, Chief Sylvester Ogbaga of the House of Representatives as well.
Others were Hon Victor Aleke of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Professor Adeaze Nwuzor - Former Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Dr Mrs Nkechi Iwu - Wife of the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, among others who commended the initiative and expressed joy for associating themselves with the foundation.
Highlights of the event included cultural dances, drama performance with songs of praises to God as well as the preaching of the word of God by Guest Speaker, Apostle Arome Osayi, who advised the widows to cultivate a good relationship with God for their survival.
