The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Council, Zone O has honoured the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Oge Elom with an award of excellence for his outstanding support to the development of sports in the Southeast region.
Speaking during the award ceremony, a member of the Council and Head of AE-FUNAI Sports Unit, Mr. Yinka Olawoyin, said the Nigerian University Games Commission at the national level approved the award to the Vice-Chancellor for his utter commitment to sports development, especially for hosting the NUGA Zone O preliminaries in the University.
He also noted that during the preliminaries, 52 students qualified to represent the University at the finals holding at the University of Lagos, from 16th- 26th March, 2022, adding that the university’s contingent to the event will be participating in 6 events which include; football (male), basketball (male), taekwondo, table tennis, Chess and scramble.
While receiving the award, the Vice-Chancellor assured of his continued support to sports development, pointing out that the University sports teams have so far done well in various competitions they participated in..
He also urged the selected students to the forthcoming games in Lagos to make the University proud by winning laurels, promising to be at the event to cheer them to victory.
Still speaking, the Vice-Chancellor said the University Management would do everything possible to support the students to excel in the games.
