A women's group under the auspices of the Queen of Peace Support Group, on Wednesday, threw its weight behind the Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate of Ebonyi state, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu as the 2023 general elections were approaching.
Recall that the Queen of Peace was a religious title bestowed on the wife of the Labour Party Candidate, Lady Chief Mrs Mary Nkwegu by His Lordship Michael Nnachi Okoro, the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Church, Abakaliki Diocese.
The members of the Queen of Peace Support Group who cut across the 13 Local Government Areas and 171 wards in Ebonyi have declared their preparedness to canvass massive votes for the victory of Arc Nkwegu and all other Labour candidates, saying "with EDON as the governor of Ebonyi in 2023, poverty will run away from the state."
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Wife of the Ebonyi Central Senatorial Candidate under the platform of the Labour Party, Chief Mrs Anthonia Nwuruku represented by Nnenna Eze described Edward Nkwegu 'EDON' as "the only gubernatorial candidate who can eliminate poverty in Ebonyi State following his creativity and antecedents as a world distinguished industrialist and entrepreneur."
Mrs Nwuruku lamented the alleged spate of killings, infringement of human rights, intimidation against innocent citizens and other insecurity challenges facing Ebonyi people and however, expressed confidence that if Nkwegu emerges as the Governor of the state in 2023 would record a tremendous transformation.
She said: "EDON is educated, he is a man of the people, whose positive impact in wealth creation has never been in doubt, he will bring fortune to our economy, education, health, agriculture, security, water, name them. We are strongly behind him to be our governor in 2023 because with EDON; there will be massive job creation and human empowerment through industrialisation.
Also speaking, the wife of the Labour Party Candidate for Afikpo South State Constituency, Mrs Nnenna Kalu Ufiem said that Dr Edward Nkwegu has displayed a high sense of transparency in the previous public offices he occupied given instance when he served as the Chairman of the Special Public Work Committee in the State.
Mrs Ufiem represented by Chigiozie Samuel said: "When Sir Dr Edward Nkwegu served as the Chairman of the Special Public Work Committee in Ebonyi, both the stakeholders and members of different political parties in the state were accommodated, even those who were not members of any political party equally benefitted from the programme.
"He is educated, creative, innovative, resourceful, humble, peaceful and God fearing. EDON is a man of the people and I believe, with EDON poverty will be destroyed in our state. There will be jobs, and all-inclusive governance and the rights of the Ebonyi people will not be abused. We are ready to rally around for his victory in 2023 because we are all Obidients."
On her part, the Wife of the Candidate for Ishielu South State Constituency, Mrs Peter Nwali berated Governor David Umahi's led government for allegedly not recruiting workers and denying civil servants their welfare since assumed office.
She noted that the present administration has failed the Ebonyi people, especially the workers, who alleged that since the inception of Governor Umahi's administration, there was no promotion of the civil servants and the retirees had been facing many challenges as their entitlements suffer setbacks.
Mrs Nwali represented by Mrs Jacinta Nwite commended the members of the Labour Party for having given the party's gubernatorial ticket to Edward Nkwegu whom she described as a man of character, a lover of peace and a wealth creator to come and transform Ebonyi State come 2023.
Responding, the Wife of the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, Lady Chief Mrs Mary Nkwegu commended the members of the group for having thrown their weight behind her husband.
Lady Nkwegu who is the founder of the Queen of Peace Support Group said the decision by her supporters especially the women folk had given a clear interpretation to her husband's landslide victory in the 2023 polls.
She expressed her readiness to work with her team to rally for the victory of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, her husband - Arc Edward Nkwegu and all other candidates of the party in the state come 2023.
Lady Nkwegu described her husband as a renowned industrialist, with an unrelenting passion to touch lives through wealth creation, and an unending spirit to promote peace and unity among people.
She, therefore, urged the Ebonyi people to support her husband to emerge as the governor of the state in 2023, saying that "my husband, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu will change the ugly narratives of Ebonyi people. He will give hope to the hopeless, and foster peace and harmony in Ebonyi communities, and there will be no discrimination against Ebonyi residents because his administration will be all-inclusive for the benefit of the citizens of this state."
