Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu has urged people of the state to throw their weight behind his party's presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in the 2023 general elections.
Dr Nkwegu stated this Saturday in his goodwill message to commemorate Nigeria and Ebonyi State's Independence Day Anniversary for the year 2022.
The governorship hopeful urged the Ebonyi people to be "Obedient and useful," by supporting Peter Obi and all the Labour Party candidates in the state to turn round the economic fortune of the state and the country at large.
His words: "It is an honour for me to extend my warmest greetings to the Ebonyi people and other Nigerians as we mark the 62nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria and the 26th anniversary of the creation of Ebonyi State.
"Today marks the end of the prolonged colonial era and the beginning of the nation, governed by the will and passion of its people, irrespective of the challenges we are facing as a nation, today is a day of joy for Nigerians.
"We must not only commemorate the efforts of our fallen heroes, but we all should also endeavour to join hands in the spirit of oneness and togetherness to achieve even the most daunting task of ensuring peace, tolerance and continued development of Ebonyi State.
"As Nigeria Celebrate her 62nd independence anniversary and Ebonyi State on 26th we must
remember to keep hope alive by dedication to service and be courageous at all times to defend and protect the image of Ebonyi State.
"Freedom does not have skin colour or gender. Freedom is for everyone no matter who you are or what you do. Let’s celebrate equality and keep fighting for freedom for every single person in Ebonyi State.
"Ebonyi People have suffered so much as a result of poverty, intolerance, multiple taxations, intimidation, highhandedness, poor salary structure as well as lack of employment opportunities and industries.
"The time to change the narratives is now, get your PVC ready to vote for all candidates of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections. Think about the past seven years in Ebonyi and make your choice."
