The Managing Director of the Broadband Service Provider, Galaxy Backbone, (GBB) in Nigeria, Professor Muhammad Abubakar has disclosed that Nigeria and Gambia are to enhance cooperation on Information Communications Technology (ICT) development.
He stated this at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, after meeting with the Gambian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr Ousman Bah.
Prof. Abubakar said Nigeria stands open to partnering with foreign counterparts to deepen partnerships on ICT development.
He informed Gambian Minister that the Agency as a public enterprise of the Nigerian Government was incorporated in 2006 with the sole aim of operating a unified Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, and can gain more advanced technical knowledge from other foreign ICT organisations.
He said the efforts of the Ministry continue to play a critical role in the development of the different sectors of the economy through the deployment of digital infrastructure across the country.
He added that as a pathway to exploring ways GBB can partner with the Gambian Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy collaboration with institutions like this is the core of the evolution as an organisation.
The Gambian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Mr Ousman Bah appreciated the management of the organisation for hosting them saying Nigeria is one of the fast-growing ICT nations that attracts developers without invitation.
Bah said he came with his team to seek partnership and also have fair terms that would benefit both countries.
They took the opportunity to take a tour of the digital services infrastructure.
Galaxy Backbone Limited, GBB is Nigeria’s owned Digital Infrastructure and shared services platform for public and private organisations under the Nigerian Government Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
Galaxy Backbone operates state-of-the-art Data centre infrastructure for the provision of secure and available Data centre services across the nation.
GBB also provides the hosting and colocation platform for software/applications and hardware services organisations in the private sector to leverage on. - VON.
