Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Arc Edward Nkwegu, has debunked the purported step-down article which began to trend on social media a few days ago.
Arc Nkwegu according to the article credited to one Mr Igiri Innocent, was alleged to have stepped down for Engr Fidelis Nwankwo, the former PDP governorship aspirant in Ebonyi State.
Reacting to the allegation, the Spokesman of the Ebonyi Gubernatorial Candidate of the Labour Party, Chief Roy Ukwuoma, urged the general public to disregard the purported step-down of Arc Edward Nkwegu's 2023 political ambition for Engr Fidelis Nwankwo, as alleged.
Chief Ukwuoma noted that "the office of the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party Ebonyi State Arc. Dr Edward Nkwegu (EDON) wishes to inform the general public to disregard the purported step-down of his political ambition for Engineer Fidelis Nwankwo as published on some social media platforms."
He described the purported step-down rumour as 'not only false but also a mischievous, unfounded and calculated attempt by the enemies of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State to distract the well-structured plans of Dr Edward Nkwegu to win next year’s governorship election.'
He added: "For purpose of clarity, he has not stepped down for anybody as circulated on social media. Dr Newegg participated in substitution primaries and won the election and remains the substantive Governorship candidate of the party as evidenced by his receipt of a certificate of return from the national leadership of the party.
"The author of the publication, Mr Igiri Innocent is a political jobber constituting a nuisance to the political orderliness thereby lining up his pockets through illegal means.
"Engineer Fidelis Nwankwo whom he is campaigning for is not a member of the Labour party and has no party membership card and as such has never participated in Labour party activities let alone the primary.
"It is important to note that the so-called south East Elders Forum was purportedly formulated for this dubious act of maligning our principal and misleading the general Public.
"Therefore, the general public should discountenance the publication as it holds no water.
"EDON (Our candidate) is still in the race and ready to take over the leadership of Ebonyi State come 2023."
