Reactions have continued to trail yesterday's ruling by the Abakaliki Federal High Court on the gubernatorial candidature of the Labour Party (LP) which according to the Presiding Judge, Justice Riman Fatun favoured one Mr Splendour Eze Oko.
In a statement issued by the members of the Ebonyi State Labour Party Media Team on Saturday, Justice Fatun's ruling on the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the favour of Eze Oko was described as a judicial process that will be appealed in the days ahead.
The members of the group through their leader leader, Jasper Nnachi urged the supporters of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State not to panic, saying the hope is still alive.
According to Nnachi, "the Federal High Court Abakaliki judgment on the governorship candidature of our principal Arc. Edward Nkwegu on Friday 18th November 2022 should be seen as a judicial process that will be appealed in the days ahead.
"Our hope in the Nigerian judiciary is still untainted and we, therefore, encourage our teaming supporters to keep hope alive."
He recalled the 30th day of September 2022, Justice Joseph Eyo Ekanem (JCA) of the Court of Appeal on a judgement authenticated the candidature of Arc. Edward Nkwegu maintained that justice will prevail further in the days ahead.
"To our teaming supporters and political associates, let your heart not be troubled because every meaningful destination will always have hills and Valleys along the way. In God we trust," the group leader added.
NATIONAL PANEL earlier reported that the rumour making rounds some quarters especially on social media over the alleged sack of the Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Arc Edward Nkwegu popularly known as Edon has been cleared.
Arc Nkwegu said that he remains a validly nominated governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi state and urged his supporters not to panic about contradictory pronouncements going on in some quarters.
It was gathered the Abakaliki Federal High Court in its ruling by Justice Riman Fatun affirmed one Mr Splendor Eze Oko as the LP gubernatorial candidate of Ebonyi State in the 2023 polls.
But Dr Nkwegu in a press release through his Social Media Assistant, Fabian Agu noted that his office has received the ongoing rumours and urged the general public to be calm as he remains the authentic LP governorship flag bearer of the state.
The release read in parts: "The office of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ebonyi state, Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu wishes to inform all his supporters and indeed the general public to remain calm as the ruling of the Federal High Court is dead on arrival because one Mr splendour Eze Oko had withdrawn from the race before the substitution primary conducted by the party which returned our principal, Dr Nkwegu as the validly nominated candidate of the party."
"The judgment delivered by Justice Riman Fatun followed the frivolous suit filed by the Counsel to Splendor Eze Oko to frustrate Ebonyi people who are in dire need of a humble, credible, capable, honest and transparent leader to save Ebonyi from poverty.
"It is not over, EDON is determined to serve the Ebonyi people as Governor and he must succeed Governor David Umahi come 2023.
"Let me inform Ebonyi people, particularly the people of Izzi land that this legal battle is between EDON and his brother Engineer Fidelis Nwankwo who vowed to create a crisis in the party to ensure the failure of Dr Edward Nkwegu since he received his certificate of return.
''Finally, we are aware that our principal Dr Nkwegu will win this battle and return glory to God.''
