The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu has launched another training and empowerment programme for his constituents.
The programme which concentrated on entrepreneurship/vocational training and empowerment of unemployed youths, women and farmers recorded 1,200 beneficiaries cutting across four local government areas including Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Izzi and Ohaukwu which make up the Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
Flagging off the event at the weekend in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, Senator Egwu expressed his readiness to reduce the poverty level of his constituents by engaging them in meaningful training and empowerment programmes to be self-reliant, wealth creators and employers of labour.
He said the programme was part of his constituency projects championed to meet up his quest of reducing poverty in the state and observed that many people have become rich through their commitment to farming after being trained and empowered by him.
Senator Egwu represented by Anselm Onwe recalled his commitment to make Ebonyi a reference state in terms of evident development beginning from when he served as Governor of the state and maintained that he would not allow the passion to die.
The Senator recalled that he had organized several folds of such a programme, including the last two weeks when he trained and empowered over 400 of his constituents on farming, equipped them with farm inputs and cash at the end of the workshop to encourage all-seasons- farming practice in Ebonyi State.
The Federal Lawmaker promised to organize more training and empowerment programmes for the students of Ebonyi North Senatorial District soon, as he commended his constituents for their endless prayers and support since he assumed his present office.
Delivering lectures on fish, cassava, rice and honey production, the Resource Person who is a Lecturer of the Federal College of Agriculture in Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, Mr Chukwunwweolu Njoku called on the participants to make good use of the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.
Also, the Candidate for the Ebonyi North-West State Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Barr Obinna Iteshi commended Senator Egwu for the empowerment programmes and urged the beneficiaries to replicate the gestures in 2023, by voting for him to go back to the House of Senate.
Other Speakers at the event, Mike Nwambam, Raymond Okeokpa, and Morgan Nwankwo among others promised to work hard towards the success of Senator Egwu in the 2023 polls.
The beneficiaries of the programme, Chinemerem Agbo, Peter Ubochi, Ukamaka Nwamini, Simon Nwakara and others from the four different council areas of Ebonyi Senatorial zone applauded the Senator for the gesture and assured him of their unwavering support in 2023.
Recall that the three-day training and empowerment programme was in partnership with the Federal Cooperative College Oji River, and every beneficiary was issued a certificate and given farming inputs including rice, cassava stems, fertilizer, fish feedings, herbicides and cash for the start-up practices by Senator Egwu.
