The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu on Wednesday won an Achiever Award following his track records in leadership and human empowerment in society.
The honour was given to Senator Egwu during a one-day Ebonyi Media Discourse and Excellent Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), People's Guide Newspaper and Pace Media Nigeria Limited at Women Development Centre, Abakaliki.
Presenting the award to Egwu, the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Dan Enyi said the recognition was given to him as a result of his distinguished achievements in public service, his professionalism, and his contributions to peace-building and societal development.
In his response, Dr Egwu, the first Executive Governor of Ebonyi State said he was elated when the invitation message for the award reached him.
The Senator was represented by Mr Samuel Okpor, who noted that the issues discussed during the program were timely, and commended the character of the organisers of the event, especially the Publisher of the People's Guide Newspapers for their ingenuity in the practice of journalism.
He noted that "Israel Ekene Mbam has distinguished himself as the Publisher of the People's Guide," saying, "Israel has established himself not minding the unemployment ravaging the country but made himself an employer of labour."
He advised Mbam and his team to sustain the tempo in championing peace, unity and unconditional development of the society with their media organisation while assuring them of his continuous support.
